A room full of students at Kent State University were shocked when their new World Studies professor announced Thursday morning that he was going to draw the Prophet Muhammad (praise be his name) on the blackboard during an orientation lecture.
Professor Allen Carter, Ph.D., used the previous day's terrorist attack in Paris as a start to a discusion on comparative religion.
"That's when he grabbed the chalk," said Wilma King, junior communications majors.
Carter began making rough sketches of religious leaders as he addressed their respective faiths.
"He drew Abraham, Jesus and Buddha," said King. "Everyone started holding their breath."
By the time Carter began sketching the Prophet of Allah, a third of the class had excused themselves.
Of those that remained, several took phone pictures in awe.
"I couldn't believe he did that, particularly for such a rough rendering," said Lewis Shelby, sophomore economics major.
While Professor Carter, who appears to remain oblivious, has not lost his job with KSU, the class has been canceled since all of the students withdrew.
